In my latest trip to the Gambia in November 2011, I was asked to run a pilot workshop at the Future Training Foundation in Kololi for a new Cooperative of emerging Gambian craftspeople called Gambia Guaranteed.
My remit was to teach them how to make paper mache packaging for their products which range from African beauty cream to handmade leather sandals. Local shoemaker Louis Gomez is featured in the workshop photo.
From November 2008 to May 2009 I was based in The Gambia, West Africa, volunteering for a charity called JUICE, (Joint Undertaking in Community Education) one of the projects I ran was screenprinting tshirts using cut paper stencils. These images are from a summer programme at Wellingara and from classes …
In tandem with the tshirt workshops in The Gambia, I ran a paper mache course for Simma Vocational School in Bundung, The Gambia.
